Description

Julia paints and draws regularly in her studio in Clyde River and also works plein air across PEI and in NS on occasion. She sells her work from her home gallery and a booth at the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market. She has taught painting and drawing through the PEI Craft Council Inc, from her own studio the Purcell Parlour Gallery in Clyde River and through the Seniors College of UPEI. Her artwork has been purchased by the City of Charlottetown, UPEI and the Art Bank of PEI.

In response to the world-wide popularity of plein air painting, Julia created two new painting events for painters in 2021 under the banner Art Across Our Island; Bonshaw Plein Air and Georgetown Plein Air. As part of her ambition to make visual art integral in our community she envisions making them annual events.

She is the newly elected President of CARFAC Maritimes (June 2021) and is the former Secretary to the board. She also serves as an elected municipal councilor in Clyde River PEI and strives to foster cultural activities in her community. She has lived in Vancouver and Halifax but calls PEI home now. She earned a BA with Honours from Dalhousie University.
