Artist Statement
Erin is a visual artist working in traditional mediums. She is skilled in portraiture and lately has been exploring more conceptual ideas around her identity; taking the time and space to find herself and her purpose.
Water has been the running theme, acting as a metaphor for the transformation taking place. Diving in, having a momentary refuge in silence and contemplation, and then resurface, gasping and grateful.
Erin aims to make a connection with anyone that can see themselves in the risks, struggles or triumphs she's revealing about her own life.
Biography
Erin has always been an artist. Her yearbook "Most likely to be..." section will verify that. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Art with a Major in Fine Art from NSCADU in 2006 and followed up with a graduation exhibition in her hometown of O'Leary.
Afterward, there was a bit of a departure from visual art, though she continued to draw/paint in her spare time, her work mainly focused on other outlets. She had a brief stint in animation drawing backgrounds for Razzberry Jazzberry Jam, a CBC production. She was an Arts Educator, teaching art to children at Murphy's after school camp and making elaborate costumes for their summer productions. That was followed by a few seasons working on wardrobe for Anne and Gilbert at The Guild, assembling dresses into something period appropriate or making entire pieces from scratch.
After having her first child, noticing how he was obviously the perfect baby, she began drawing portraits again. Getting into pencil crayon and other mediums she hadn't spent much time using, she found a new joy in drawing again. Erin's portrait business took off from there in 2015 and has been steady ever since.
In the fall of 2023, she quit working part-time to pursue art full time. Erin still enjoys portraiture but has had more time to explore her other creative endeavours, discovering what her next stage will be.
