Biography

Daniel Brown is a PEI director, writer, editor and producer with a background in journalism. He’s directed three indie short films under his production company, Neato Films, with a focus on elevated genre stories: SANCTUS GLADIO (2019), THE OL’ ONE TWO (2021) and YOUR BROTHER HARRY (2023). For THE OL’ ONE TWO, he was recognized with the PEI Arts Grant and the Classics at City Cinema Emerging Filmmaker Award. It also received the ChFF Award for Best Acting (Ryan McCarvill).

Brown co-wrote and edited the comedy CRAYON QUEEN: THE PIPER POLLOCK STORY (2022) as part of The 48 Hour Film Project - which won that year’s Best of Atlantic Canada and Best Editing awards. He also shot and edited eight episodes of ISLAND DIGITAL VOICES: SEASON TWO (2022-Present), a provincial docuseries which is entering its third season under Brown’s journalistic and visual direction. On the side, Brown directs and produces an internet comedy sketch series, NEATO (2017-Present). He’s also worked in Locations on PEI feature films A SMALL FORTUNE (2021) and WHO’S YER FATHER (2023), as well as on CBC’S DIGGSTOWN (2022) and for clients such as Parks Canada.

In 2023, Brown was both a Filmmaker Lab fellow with the Atlantic International Film Festival, as well as a participant of the PEI Market Accelerator through Whistler Film Festival - the latter in which he’s developing one of his feature film scripts, INTO THE ARCANE (sci-fi / mystery).
